What we collect about you, why we need it, who sees it and how to get it removed. Written in plain English, in line with UK data protection law.
01Who is responsible for your information
Marlon James Edwards Ltd (company number 13625421) is the data controller for the personal information described here. Our registered office is The Halley, Reliance Wharf, Hertford Road, London N1 5ET, and you can contact our data contact at info@marlonjames-edwards.com.
We collect the minimum we need to teach your child and to run a parent community. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass it to advertisers.
02What we collect
From you, when you sign up and use the app:
- your email address and name, and the sign-in method you choose (email, Google or Lovable)
- the display name and location you add to your parent profile — location is optional and you can leave it blank
- the first names and ages of the children you add, so sessions and strategies can be matched to them
- anything you choose to post, reply or react to in the Community
- the messages you send to the AI study coach, while you use it
Automatically, as you browse:
- basic technical information such as device type, browser, and which pages were visited, used to fix faults and keep the app secure
- session information stored in your browser so you stay signed in on the device you use
From our payment provider: which plan you are on, whether it is active, your billing dates and customer reference. Card details go to our payment provider only — we never receive or store full card numbers.
03Why we use it, and the legal basis
- to provide the tutoring, library and community you have paid for — contract
- to take payment, issue receipts and keep financial records — contract and legal obligation
- to send session reminders, plan notices and replies to your questions — legitimate interests
- to keep members safe, moderate the Community and prevent abuse — legitimate interests
- to fix faults, improve the app and answer support requests — legitimate interests
- to send marketing by email only where you have asked for it; you can unsubscribe in one click — consent
04The AI study coach
When you ask the coach a question, your message is sent to Anthropic (Claude) purely to generate the reply, and is then returned to you. We do not store coach conversations in our own database, and coach chats are not used to train models.
Please do not put anything in the coach that you would not want a processor to see — for example your home address, your child's full name and school together, or medical records. First names and ages are enough to get useful help.
05Who we share information with
- our payment provider (Paddle Ltd), which processes card payments and subscriptions
- our hosting and database provider, which stores app data on secure servers
- our sign-in providers (Google and Lovable) when you use them to create or access your account
- Anthropic, to generate AI coach replies
- our email provider, to deliver receipts, reminders and replies
Each of these organisations acts on our instructions and may only use your information to deliver the service. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect the safety of a child or a member.
06Children's information
The app is designed for adults. A child's first name and age are entered by you, the parent or carer, and are used only to personalise your child's learning and progress notes. We do not knowingly collect data directly from children, and we do not build advertising profiles of them.
If you post about your child in the Community, please think about what they would be comfortable with in ten years' time.
07How long we keep it
- account, profile and child details: while your account is open, then deleted within 30 days of you closing it
- Community posts and replies: while your account is open, or until you delete them
- payment and subscription records: seven years, because tax law requires it
- support and complaint emails: three years from the last reply
08Where your information is held
Some of our providers operate outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on recognised transfer protections such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement. Ask us at the email below for a copy of the safeguards we use.
09Keeping it safe
Access is restricted to the people who need it, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we review who has access regularly. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach ever puts your information at risk we will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office where the law requires it.
10Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- confirm what we hold and give you a copy (subject access request)
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your account and data, where we are not required to keep it
- stop processing for marketing, or hand your data to another service in a portable format
Email info@marlonjames-edwards.com. We reply within one month and this costs nothing. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you think we have mishandled your information.
11Cookies and similar technology
We use strictly necessary browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your settings. The checkout screen loads scripts from our payment provider so it can take payment securely. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. You can clear browser storage at any time, though you will then need to sign in again.
12Changes to this notice
If we change this notice in a way that affects you, we will say so in the app and by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows the current version.
